 VINEYARD NOTES

The Skycrest Vineyard is our highest elevation site in Anderson Valley, rising between 1,500 and 2,000 feet above sea level in the hills northeast of Boonville. Skycrest sits above the fog line, giving the vines ample access to sunlight. The vineyard is steep in many sections and rests on sandstone soil, creating more stressful growing conditions. These intense conditions produce highly concentrated Chardonnay with exceptional depth of character.

WINEMAKING

The grapes were night harvested, keeping the fruit cold upon arrival at the winery. The Chardonnay was in perfect condition, so we bypassed the sorting line. The bins were foot-tread by Sarah and the team, and the juice remained in contact with the skins for 2 to 4 hours before being loaded into the press. The juice was then pressed to tank and allowed to settle overnight. The next day, we racked the juice into barrels. Ambient yeast and bacteria were allowed to naturally carry out both primary and malolactic fermentation. The individual barrels aged untouched, with no stirring, for a total of 16 months. The Chardonnay was blended back into tank just before bottling in February 2024.

TASTING NOTES

The 2022 Chardonnay opens with inviting aromas of lemon shortbread, spiced pear, and a hint of sea salt, layered with tarragon, lily of the valley florals, and subtle notes of white pepper and cardamom. On the palate, it begins with a gentle presence, then electric acidity builds as the wine moves from front to back, creating tension and vibrancy. Medium weight at the center gives way to a persistent, graceful finish that lingers with poise.
