Dear Friends,

Sending my gratitude for your support as I approach my 22nd vintage  in the wine industry- I’m really excited to introduce to you the 2020 vintage Maggy Hawk wines for your Fall Allocation. This time, instead of offering the perfect food pairing, I’m recommending some of my favorite music - both old and new- to listen to while you’re sipping:

Jolie Pinot Noir, 630 cases

You’ve come to love her as “the pretty one;” The 2020 Jolie is showing her earthy side this vintage with plenty of Deep End forest floor and fir tip aromas tucked away behind the fresh, crunchy red fruit and bright acidity.  I’m thinking something beautiful and strong: Stevie Nicks, Brandi Carlisle, or Beyonce would do just fine.

Stormin’  Pinot Noir, 220 cases

Keeping in line with prior vintages, the 2020 Stormin’ is incredibly dark, moody and intense. A perfect-for-Fall wine that just oozes comfort. I’ll be curling up on the couch with a book and a blanket, listening to  Miles Davis, Leon Bridges or Thom Yorke.

Skycrest Vineyard  Chardonnay, 520 cases

Your un-California Chardonnay! You’ve heard me talk about my love for White Burgundies, and I do my best to try to pay tribute to this region through the lens of the Skycrest Vineyard. A mix of citrus fruit and marine qualities, with a hint of matchstick reduction gets me every time. Classic, with bright energy, just like The Supremes, Jimi Hendrix or Daft Punk.

Each growing season and harvest presents a new set of challenges, which is another reason I love my job- there’s never a dull moment!  Being able to successfully navigate these challenges wouldn’t be possible without the incredible team I have working alongside me throughout the year: so I’d like to also take a moment to thank my vineyard, cellar, lab, admin, marketing, and sales teams for all of the work that they put in, day-in and day-out, so that the best Maggy Hawk wines show up in each bottle. Much like a musician or band creates and releases an album as an expression of themselves, so are these Maggy Hawk wines- a reflection of the vintage, the place, and of me.
